Why a "Night of Darkness"?

The "Night of Darkness" is a campaign that invites us to rediscover the magical night landscape.

This promotion is an initiative of the association "Prevention Lichthinder", together with various municipalities and organizations in Flanders. Unfortunately, there is often too much and wrong lighting - both by the government, industry and ourselves. That light often shines up, where nobody needs it, but nature is disturbed.

That disturbance is harmful to people, animals and plants! It causes sleep disorders and health problems with us, while it also confuses nocturnal animals and the growth of plants. In addition, light waste is a source of pollution, because we use energy for light that serves no purpose.

With the "Night of Darkness", municipalities and associations want to join forces to let us enjoy the beauty of the night, without unnecessary light. We want to rediscover our connection with the darkness, without compromising on safety!

It offers a unique opportunity to enjoy the nature of Vloethemveld, a nature park that fascinates all year round. Ideal for those who love walking in Zedelgem or a walk with children!

On October 11, we will organize a quiet evening walk in Vloethemveld in search of bats and other nocturnal residents. We will bring a ‘bat detector’ and thermal binoculars to explore life in the darkness.

Where?
We start in the Kamphuis, Vloethemveld 10a, 8210 Zedelgem.
Park your car at parking 2 of Campus POV (next to the big mast) and walk via the Bedelfdreef (Kasseiweg opposite the parking) to the camp house, or cycle there.

When?
We start at 7 p.m.

Participation:
€5 per person - max. 20 participants.

Dogs are not allowed. Ensure suitable clothing and footwear, depending on the weather.
