'The Night of Darkness' campaign is organised to help everyone discover the beauty of the nocturnal landscape. The association Preventie Lichthinder works together with dozens of municipalities and organisations across Flanders. There is far too much artificial light, and it is often used incorrectly—by governments, industry, and the general public. This disturbance is harmful to humans, animals, and plants.
During the Night of Darkness, municipalities and organisations join forces to reconnect people with the night. Through activities like this one, participants can rediscover the nocturnal landscape, regain a sense of comfort with darkness, and enjoy the splendour of the night sky.
On 10 October, a peaceful evening walk will be organised in Vloethemveld in this context. We will search for bats and other nocturnal animals. Equipped with a bat detector and a thermal camera, we explore life after sunset—an unforgettable nature experience for young and old.
